First Lady hosts Christmas party for children

First Lady, Deolatchmee Ramotar puts a Santa hat on one of the children attending the Christmas party at State House.

The gates of State House were opened on Wednesday to hundreds of children from Tiger Bay, Albouystown, Coldingen, Mahaica and other villages in Region 4 where they were treated to presents, goodies, face painting, games, dancing and singing.
The children’s party is a part of a series being held by the First Lady’s Foundation for the Promotion of the Positive Family.
First Lady, Mrs. Deolatchmee Ramotar recognised that Christmas is a time for families especially children, and the party was to ensure that they experience that element of giving in the form of gifts.
The First Lady acknowledged the presence of mothers, many of whom attended the party with their children, and called on them to love their children.
Mrs. Ramotar also emphasised the need for parents to care, nurture and protect their children against exploitation and abuse. In this regard parents can bring up their children to be productive citizens, capable of contributing to Guyana’s development.
The First Lady’s Foundation also places emphasis on promoting literacy. The foundation is currently gathering books to establish libraries in children’s homes. This effort will see volunteers visiting the homes to assist the children with their reading skills.
